Best Luxury Safari Camps in South Luangwa and Zambia

Introduction to Sungani and Kulandila Safari Camps

Rael Zieve: Welcome to Keep Traveling Your African Vacation. Today, I’m joined by Jordan and Michael Davy, the brother-sister duo behind Sungani and Kulandila camps in South Luangwa, Zambia. Jordan, can you share your role?

Jordan Davy: I oversee marketing, PR, and reservations for both camps.

Rael Zieve: Michael, you handle guiding, conservation, and photography. Tell us more.

Michael Davy: I manage guest guiding, conservation efforts with local organizations, and create social media content. I’m based onsite year-round.

Location: Best Luxury Safari Camps in South Luangwa, Zambia

Rael Zieve: Where are the camps located?

Jordan Davy: We’re in the southern part of South Luangwa National Park, one of Zambia’s premier wildlife destinations. The area offers an exclusive and remote safari experience.

Rael Zieve: How do international guests reach the camps?

Michael Davy: Guests fly into Lusaka, then take a scheduled flight to Mfuwe. From there, we provide a private air transfer to our lodge, a 25-minute flight. Alternatively, guests can opt for a scenic four-hour road transfer in an air-conditioned Land Cruiser, where wildlife sightings are common.

Accommodation at the Best Luxury Safari Lodges in Zambia

Rael Zieve: What accommodations do you offer?

Jordan Davy: Sungani has seven spacious luxury tents with over 1,000 square feet of indoor space and outdoor decks. Kulandila, a more intimate camp, has four tents at 460 square feet each, making it ideal for exclusive buyouts.

Rael Zieve: How do the two camps differ?

Jordan Davy: Sungani offers elevated walkways, a gym, and a photographic studio, providing a luxurious experience. Kulandila, while maintaining high comfort, has a classic safari feel, offering a more grounded, adventurous atmosphere. Both camps provide the same high-quality service and activities.

Activities: Safari Photography and Wildlife Experiences in South Luangwa

Rael Zieve: Do guests have the option to experience both camps?

Jordan Davy: Yes! We offer a “Best of Both” special—two nights at Kulandila, three at Sungani, plus a complimentary night at Kulandila. This allows guests to enjoy both settings seamlessly.

Rael Zieve: Michael, you’re passionate about photography. How does that tie into sustainability?

Michael Davy: Photography deepens guests’ appreciation for conservation. We offer high-end camera rentals so guests can capture their experiences without traveling with bulky equipment. It also supports local education—when people see the beauty of South Luangwa, they are more inclined to preserve it.

Community Engagement and Sustainability in Zambian Safari Lodges

Rael Zieve: How do you support local talent in photography and guiding?

Michael Davy: I work with local communities and conservation groups, mentoring aspiring guides and photographers. Seeing their perspective shift when they engage with wildlife up close is incredibly rewarding.

Family-Run Safari Lodges in South Luangwa: The Davy Legacy

Rael Zieve: Working with family must be interesting. Any challenges?

Jordan Davy: We have different approaches—I’m structured, Michael is creative—but we’ve learned to collaborate. The business is truly family-run. Our parents oversee operations, and our older brother in the U.S. assists with business development.
