7 Nights in Kenya
When we arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the cheerful welcome and effortless expertise set our hearts racing for the adventure ahead. Soon after, a quick 30-minute transfer brought us to Hemingways Nairobi. As we arrived at Hemingways Hotel in Nairobi, our family felt a blend of comfort and excitement under the stunning skyline. For example, the calm atmosphere, delicious meals, and peaceful setting set the stage for an unforgettable Mount Kenya trek. Indeed, every detail, expertly planned by Wild Sunsets Travel & Tours, promised a transformative adventure.
Leaving Nairobi, we journeyed to Soames Hotel, a charming retreat nestled among rolling plains with breathtaking Mount Kenya views. Consequently, the colonial-era hideaway sparked our sense of adventure. The kids explored the scenic grounds, while my partner and I savored the quiet, preparing for the trek ahead. That evening, as mist drifted over the hills, we felt the mountain’s call, stirring both challenge and beauty.
The trek began through ancient forests, where bamboo groves whispered timeless tales. For instance, the cool air and soft ground deepened our sense of wild isolation. Upon reaching Forest Camp, we gazed at a sky bursting with stars. The kids marveled at the dazzling display, while my partner and I shared quiet talks by the campfire’s glow. Thus, the journey’s magic started to unfold.
Each step upward revealed Mount Kenya’s wonders. At Lake Ellis, we enjoyed lunch by serene waters, surrounded by wildflowers and distant grazing animals. Although the kids wanted to roam, our guides suggested an optional Mugi Hill hike for my husband and I. The steep climb offered stunning valley views, with only the wind’s whisper breaking the silence. As a result, we felt closer to the mountain’s spirit.
One unforgettable stop was Lake Michaelson, nestled among dramatic quartzite cliffs. The lake’s vivid colors left us speechless. For example, our family bonded over trout fishing, laughing and learning patience. While exploring the shores, I stood in awe of the untouched beauty. Meanwhile, our guides shared captivating stories, their passion enriching every moment of our Mount Kenya trek.
The pinnacle came at sunrise on Point Lenana. Words fail to capture the dawn’s vibrant hues stretching across East Africa. Despite the tough climb, the golden-lit mountains made it worthwhile. Standing there with my family, my husband spoke softly: “This is what life’s for.” Indeed, he was right.
As we descended, we reflected on our shared experiences. Mount Kenya gave us more than a trek—it forged connections and awe we’ll cherish for years. Therefore, the mountain’s magic lingers, pulling us back. Already, I dream of returning to relive this extraordinary Mount Kenya adventure.
